Ceramic and culinary community project

It makes me happy to cook and have people sit around my dining table using dinnerware I’ve created. As well as a cook, I’m a designer; I like solving puzzles. 

I created a set of dishes that, like those who join my table, live in community. To decorate the bowls, I created a lexicon, a series of graphic marks on the bowls, which would correspond with a sort of oracle card that had the mark on one side, and a reading about being creative, on the other. Each person invited was asked to pick a bowl that spoke to them, from the sculpture in the middle of the table. They were then handed the oracle card whose graphics matched their bowl. At dinner, with the bowls and cards as sparks for conversation, strangers became friends.
